  • Vegas Party

    June 30, 2006 0 Comments

Sorry for the lack of updates...I had a crazy week before coming out to Europe. It all started off with our Friday night party in Las Vegas to celebrate the website launch. J Dubb and I rolled out along with some of my L.A. friends, it was a wild night. We started off having dinner at Tao, which has great food and really cool decor. I especially liked these massive paintings on the wall...

Vegas Party Vegas Party Then we headed to the club area where it was pandemonium. We had the center table in the vip area overlooking the whole club, it was pretty dope. Vegas Party As usual, we did it pretty big, Five Four style. Vegas Party Vegas Party Vegas Party Vegas Party Vegas Party By 2 am, our section was getting a little bit rowdy. We had girls dancing all over the tables...life's a good look. Vegas Party Vegas Party This is what the night felt like by the end... Vegas Party

We then headed over to the casino and gambled until the sun came up...Vegas rocks. We left the next afternoon, total Vegas trip lasted about 16 hours, just enough time to have a great dinner, party, gamble, eat breakfast and head back to L.A.

Since I was leaving for Europe 4 days later, it was non-stop work at the office. We got everything done.

I was able to sneak in a last night of fun in L.A. on Tuesday night. Definitely the most fun I've had in L.A. in awhile. Had to be up early the next morning for last minute meetings at the office and with vendors.

Luckily we made our flight as I stayed at the wash house before my flight finishing the last washes for Spring 2007. Then got on a plane for a 9 hour flight to London.

I spent most of the day at the wash house putting the last touches on the wash designs…oh man, we are coming out with some heat. Everyone better be ready, it’s going to be bananas.

Here are some parties we are doing this week to celebrate the launch of the site…

  • FF in Hong Kong

    June 13, 2006 0 Comments

We arrived in Hong Kong late Friday afternoon from China. I love this city. Other than L.A., it’s my other favorite city along with London. I’ve been five times here in the past 10 months, and every time it’s a great experience.

We started the afternoon off with meetings through the evening. Most of our time was spent at one of our favorite people in the industry, the good folks over at Kaihara denim, infamous Japanese denim mill. As many of you know, Five Four is really known for its jeans. We are always using the best fabrics from around the world, particularly Japan and Italy. Kaihara also mills fabric for everyone’s favorites…Evisu and Levi’s Japan. After picking out some new developments for 2007, we headed on our way to what else…shopping in the good old HK.

FF in Hong Kong FF in Hong Kong FF in Hong Kong Right across the street from our hotel they are building the new Dior Homme store, can’t wait to come back and see the new store. I am a big collector of their sunglasses. FF in Hong Kong The next day we went shopping all day, the shoppinig here is endless. FF in Hong Kong And endless FF in Hong Kong And ENDLESS!!!!! FF in Hong Kong We went to go check out this fondue place on the Kowloon side which is famous for it’s good food. I must say, the food was incredible. FF in Hong Kong We were supposed to go clubbing, but as we walked through Lan Kwei Fong, it was mayhem. They were televising the World Cup…there is nothing more exciting than a bunch of drunk foreigners watching soccer, drinking beer and falling off the floor…YOUNG! FF in Hong Kong Next day, we did it all over again. Launching a girl’s line is a lot of work. We shopped again for another 10 hours…Christine from Five Four joined us in the shopping as she will be the women’s brand director. After buying a couple pair of sneakers, sunglasses and other accessories, I decided to stop. It was getting a little out of hand. The 48 hour stay in HK was definitely another good time. Here are some pics of the HK. Our plane finally touched town Sunday night back in L.A. I was excited to get back home and sleep. What a crazy week!

  • Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong

    June 9, 2006 0 Comments

Sorry for the lack of updates, it’s been a crazy week. I’m currently on a two hour train ride to Hong Kong.

So the last two days we covered two cities, Hangzhou and Guangzhou. We left our main vendor in Ningbo and headed to Hangzhou on Wednesday. The car ride was only about 1 hour so it wasn’t that bad. I passed out in the car for the majority of the ride. Towards the end of the car ride, our driver decided to beat the railroad crossing that was coming down. He speeded towards the crossing at about 60 miles per hour and almost hit the gates. Unfortunately, he banked his tire so hard that he busted his rear tire. After 15 minutes of continuous driving, the tire gave due and we had to stop to change it. This was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. So this driver had a weird vibe to him, he looked like one of those characters in the Street Fighter video games. Dude rolled out of the van like Mr. Cool and said 2 words to this guy at some makeshift body shop, tossed a cigarette at him and the guy proceeded to fix our tire. It was so hysterical I felt like it was straight out of some movie. This place was in the middle of nowhere. I looked up and I see across from us a guy in a field working, it was very strange. The people were staring at us as if we had just landed from Mars.

Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong We then headed to the factory for the majority of the day. After a long day at the factory, we headed back into the city of Hangzhou. The most infamous part of this city is its lake, called the Westlake. It is definitely one of the most beautiful places I’ve been. Our vendor put us up at the Shangri-La there which is an amazing hotel, overlooking the lake. The design of it has a plantation style kind of vibe to it. Since our flight to Guangzhou (south China) was real early the next day, we had to get up early and take a quick tour of the lake. After enjoying a great breakfast overseeing the lake, we headed off to the airport. Peep below. Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Right before we left the lake, I noticed this guy on this park bench with some funny looking socks. His style was so wacked that it was kind of cool. I had to take a picture of it. Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong I’ve been to China five times in the last year. The country has never ceased to amaze me. The first time I came I received all these warnings saying to be careful with the food, China was ghetto, etc. I’d have to say I’ve only had amazing experiences here. The people are great, the country is beautiful, the food is unreal and it’s definitely an exciting place to visit. The growth of this country is unbelievable. Every time you drive in the city or the country, all you see is massive construction going on with huge office and residential buildings being put up. In fact, every time I come back and visit the same area that I went to last time, I see many completed construction projects. It’s a great place to be and I recommend everyone to visit at some point in your life. Your eyes will definitely be exposed to some great things. I always get a rush when I come here, partially because Five Four is now doing big things over here but also to see the growth and rapid expansion of such a magnificent place. Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong We got into Guangzhou and it was raining pretty hard. The worst kind of rain, humid and warm water rains. Since we would only be in the city for 24 hours we headed straight to the factory for a long day of work. Checking into the hotel was quite an experience. The ceiling was very low so Ryan decided to play with it and created a big hole on the ceiling. It was pretty hilarious. Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong We showered and then went to another great Chinese style dinner, but this time we had Korean BBQ. After a long night of eating and drinking, we hit the sack at about 5am and woke up at 10am to catch our train to HK. I must say though, I’m very exhausted. We’ve covered 5 cities in 4 days so far, roughly 18-24 hours per city. I’m very excited to go to Hong Kong. However, we just got a call on the train warning us that there is a black storm coming tonight. Yikesssssssssssssssss! Lastly, here are two more of those great literal translations from Chinese to English. You gotta love it. Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong Goodbye China, Hello Hong Kong

  • Shanghai Nights

    June 5, 2006 0 Comments

So we finally arrived in Shanghai on Sunday night after a lay over in Hong Kong. I brought Emmanuel (Five Four Design Director) with me on the trip. We were picked up at the Shanghai Pudong Airport by Ryan (Five Four Product Development Director, based out of Hong Kong). He’s been killin’ it at our Chinese factories for the last 3 months, poor guy lost like 15 lbs. dieting on Chinese food and tea!

I’ve been to Shanghai before but when I usually come all I do is work. First time I was here for 2 weeks and the second time I came I was here for about 12 hours, came to our vendor’s office and then hopped on a plane to Hong Kong at night. Anyways, so we got to our hotel pretty late and needed to get some room service immediately. We were stuck eating nasty plane food for a whole day. Got some burgers and grubbed. Also ordered some great Chinese beer called Tsing Tao.

The next morning we came to our vendor’s office to work all morning. They then took us to lunch and surprisingly I saw two American restaurant chains I didn’t expect to see here, Hooters and Coffee Bean. You normally see McDonald’s, Starbucks and KFC everywhere. In fact, I’ve never seen so many damn KFC restaurants in my life, there is one here every 3 blocks!

Shanghai Nights Shanghai Nights Came back to the office to work all the way until late, went to another great Chinese style dinner. Check out the bowl of chili peppers that welcomes you when you walk in to the restaurant. Shanghai Nights Shanghai Nights For those of you that have been to Shanghai, you know the city is incredible. We decided to head out to The Bund at night for a drink. There is this club called 18 on The Bund (I think that’s the name) there that has a great view of the Bund and the river as well, its pretty nuts. Shanghai Nights Shanghai Nights Shanghai Nights Shanghai Nights Shanghai Nights Shanghai Nights The next morning we went to a city outside of Shanghai called Ningbo to check out a factory. I slept the whole 3 hour drive. The city is pretty nice, peep below. Shanghai Nights Shanghai Nights Shanghai Nights Everywhere I’ve been China people drive like nuts. Here is one instance how we were sandwiched between 2 other cars on one street, you almost seem to think like you are always going to get hit by another car but luckily you never really do… Shanghai Nights After hitting up the factory, we went to another Chinese style dinner. This time we ate at the yacht club. Our private room overlooked the river. Shanghai Nights Shanghai Nights Shanghai Nights Shanghai Nights We headed back to the hotel and decided to grab a drink. The first bar we saw next to the hotel was called O’Reilly’s, a brand new Irish pub that opened today. Since it was opening day, it was free drinks all night. Ningbo isn’t really the most popping town, so I think this might have been the coolest thing going down all night. In L.A. it’s usually a hot private party or club that’s going off w/a good crowd and bottles poppin’, here it might be foosball and pool tables at O’Reilly’s as the hot night in the town. Pretty young look… Shanghai Nights On a side note, I’ve been noticing translations from Chinese to English on many signs and packaging, here are some that were pretty funny. • Five Four Website Launch, Summertime and Long Plane Rides

    June 3, 2006 0 Comments

Welcome to the official Five Four website. Sorry for the ridiculously long delay in putting this site up, I know a lot of you have been looking forward to seeing what’s been going on with Five Four. Dee has been asking me every day “what’s up with the website,” and I usually have been responding, “it’s almost done man.”

I’m presently on a 14 hour plane ride to Hong Kong, trying to score some more of those unsalted peanuts. On top of that, my TV at my seat doesn’t work for some reason and my iPod ran out of battery. I can’t sleep on planes for some reason, even when I’m flying business or first class. The dude next to me is snoring really loud and looks like he has some drool going on his shirt…not a good look.

Five Four Website Launch, Summertime and Long Plane Rides Five Four Website Launch, Summertime and Long Plane Rides Our summer line has started shipping, it should be hitting all stores w/in the next 2 weeks. Also, check out our new look book that is being distributed in all of our stores. It has some shots from our summer campaign and a preview of our fall collection. Shout out to Tyler Shields for shooting a great book and our friends who were shot for the book. I don’t really like using models, I prefer to take people that I’m friends with or off the street that I feel have the right look for our brand. Thanks again to our friends Jon, David, Max, Soleil and Aaron for participating. Some notables include Sundance, Super Bowl, Grammys, Oscars and the MTV Movie Awards. TV Shows include Entourage, Deal or no Deal, Best Damn Sports Show, and countless MTV shows. J has definitely been holding us down strong in 2006. It’s going to be a crazy summer ahead of us, as we’re going to be all over the world in the next 3 months. Some of the cities include Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, Paris, Barcelona, Milan, Florence, Rome, Berlin, Miami, New York, Las Vegas, Montreal and Toronto. Looks like I’ll probably be running out of places to stamp on my passport.

Next month will be the official Five Four European launch at the Bread and Butter shows in Barcelona and Berlin. We are really excited to go into the European market as we keep expanding Five Four into the global arena. We will be showing our holiday line and previewing our new spring 2007 line, which by the way looks so ridiculous. I haven’t been so excited about any season like I am about this one. We are also launching a full accessories collection including hats, bags, belts, wallets, key chains, and luggage. Another project we just started working on that has me very excited is the Five Four women’s line. We are shooting for a summer 2007 release. Let’s just say it’s going to make a big splash, the first designs look amazing. Nothing like you’ve seen before.

Lastly, Dee and I would like to thank all of our great staff, vendors, accounts, associates, etc. that have supported us a great deal over the last few months. It’s been a wild ride, just 4 years ago we were sitting in our dorm room at USC planning this fledgling clothing line called Five Four and 4 years later here we are, rising to the top. We always imagined it would come to fruition one day but I guess once you get there it’s kind of an unbelievable feeling to know that your dreams, goals and plans are becoming a reality and expanding by the day. More importantly, one of our greatest rewards is inspiring people all over the world to pursue their own dreams. As you see on our FIVE FOUR LIFE section, there is a section called ASK FF for your questions. Don’t hesitate to hit us up for advice, thoughts, etc. Believe in Five Four. Five Four Life.

    Peace, Andres
