Our good friend Ray Hughes , went to Cannes last week for the Cannes Film Festival and did a photo journal for Five Four, check it out.
The Cannes International Film Festival is held every May in Cannes, France. The annual festival is held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres.
Ray manages actor Verne Troyer and was there for Verne's new film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus directed by Terry Gilliam, and starring Johnny Depp, the late Heath Ledger, Jude Law, Colin Farrell, Christopher Plummer and Verne of course to name a few.
The film premiered in Cannes last week, so without further adieu here's a glimpse of Ray's week in Cannes. It's always very interesting to get an inside glimpse of mega events such as this, especially when your friends are involved. Congrats to Ray on his success.
Here is Ray's commentary on his photos:
- arriving into Nice Cote D'Azur airport

- outside our hotel, The Hotel Martinez, always at least 75-100 people barricaded off to get a glimpse of a celebrity.

- view to the left from hotel

- view to the right from hotel

- Largest yacht in the bay - Paul Allen's "Octopus" the worlds largest privately owned. $200 million-cost - 414 feet long - 60 person crew yearround - 10 boats on board - 2 heliports - basketball court - pool & spa - 10 man 40' SUBMARINE –

mix between a motorcycle and a 4-wheeler

- bumblebee from transformers displayed in front of the Carlton Hotel

- Le Palais - Official artwork for the Festival

- La Croisette - the main street along the ocean in Cannes

- Film screenings and concerts on La Croisette. Free and open to the public

- Boulevard De La Croisette at night

- Carlton Hotel at night.

- The best self-promotion poster I've ever seen. I can't believe this guy did that. I hope he gets hired off this

- Sun Deck at our Hotel

- doing the walk through at Le Palais the day before the premier. I'm wearing FF white V-neck and FF Magellan Straight Leg Denim

- day at the beach - umbrellas and yachts. Check the "octopus" out there just trumping everyone in size.

- looking down la croisette from the water.

- morning of the premier - on the dock - noticing it is toooo damn hot to be wearing a jacket. Took it off right after this photo

For this photo above, Ray is receiving an honorary Look of the Week, what a great setting to be wearing Five Four, in Cannes at the film festival. Places like this are what inspire me to design my collection, this is the lifestyle. Here's a recap of what Ray is wearing:

- The entire crew from "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus" in the Lobby of The Hotel Martinez before the photo call. Verne Troyer on his scooter, Terry Gilliam on the phone, Lily Cole towering over everyone looking stunning, Andrew Garfield in the blue vans, publicists, producers, money men, etc.

- Every time we went outside - paparazzi and fans with their camera's in your face.

- This is what a photo call at the Palais Des Festivals looks like. A lot of people shouting at you to look left, look right, look here. Its very funny to watch.

- Lily Cole (actress/supermodel), Verne Troyer (actor) , Terry Gilliam (writer/director), Andrew Garfield (actor)

- What their view is - I shouldn't have gotten in the shot, but I thought to myself "Damn that would be a good photo" and I went for it.

- View from the photo call deck. Very nice.

- The hallway to the press conference. Every time you turn around there's a camera. It's insane.

- Dr. Parnassus press conference. Reporters and cameras from all around the world in one room. The press outreach here is beyond impressive.

- Press Conference panel. Andrew Garfield, Lily Cole, Terry Gilliam, Sam Hadida (producer), Verne Troyer, Amy Gilliam (Producer/Terrys daughter)

- leaving press conference. Another hallway of people and cameras. Security is so tight here too.

- Verne and his security. We had Ludovic (on the left) with us 24/7 and the other guy on the right all times at Le Palais. We all didn't think it was neceassary, but they insisted. So we ran with it.

- Best Melon ive ever had. The hotel served it every day at lunch. Sometime with prosciutto - sometimes without.

amfAR's Cinema Against Aids gala. Special guest speaker Bill Clinton. Performance by Annie Lennox. Organization has raised $290 million for aids research.
- Verne on the black carpet.

- Hotel du Cap grounds. Cocktails were served here for the first hour before the dinner and auction started.

- Inside the event.

- A shot of some of the artwork on the walls

- Me on the black carpet after the event. I didn't want to stop and take a pic when the 150 photographers were out there earlier.

Getting ready for the premier.
- That's cousin Chris/Verne's Assistant. Busy twittering and drinking champagne. He's on the clock too lol

- Verne not looking at me so I took his photo anyways. Looking dapper with that custom made tux

- Having a glass of champagne cause everyone else is. I think im more nervous that Verne is at this point.

- The official cars of the Festival. Look at all the people on the right. Thats crazy to me.

- pulling into Le Palais - these are the fans across the street. Premier is at 7pm and these people start to lineup at 8am on the day of the premier.

- Andrew Garfield getting ready to hit the carpet.

- The red carpet. Got chills just watching this.

- At the top of the steps of Le Palais.

- Walked into the theater and 2500 people are on the their feet applauding. We were all surprised.

- The conclusion of the film, another standing ovation. Look at the people at the top too

- after party for the premier. Some house in the hills they call "Californie" overlooking the Med sea.

- Cousin Chris and I - you prob can't tell, but my pants are Five Four. My tux pants got messed up the night before at amfAR and I had no choice but to rock these the night of the premier. The pants matched my Calvin Klein tux jacket properly! Also - Special thanks to WIlliam Lifestyle at FF for demanding i wear a self tie bow tie. It def made a BIG difference - i now have outgrown the clip-on.

- Myself - Verne - Cousin Chris

- Smoke Machine was blazing

- Enjoying champagne and looking a little buzzed.

- 5am at L'Kodak beach party and its still 300 people strong. Ending the night with Kate & Donna (agents for Andrew Garfield) and Harry Gilliam.

- last day in Cannes. The Pool at The Hotel Martinez.

- View from the Hills of Cannes.

- No idea what that is. I guess even the "eccentric" come out to the french riviera.

- That's where the Man in The Iron Mask was jailed. Pretty dope.

- Front page of the paper in Cannes - Verne and crew on the red carpet the night before.

- Leaving Nice - sign at airport says "Kiss & Fly" - is that where the club in NYC stole its name from? Great saying either way....

- Photog departing party at Nice airport.

- Connecting thru LHR-London. Virgin Atlantic to LAX. 11 hours to la la land

Thank you to Ray Hughes for the inside look to the Cannes International Film Festival.
